The competition was opened to all local schools and colleges back in July 2012. The winning design come from Jade Smith (in the picture, on the right) with 3 runners up: Rachael Adejumo, Sarah Warburton, Ellie Fleming.

Jade's design was converted into a 3D CAD model by our Design Engineer, who also made the wax injection tool on our desktop CNC machine. The tool was then used on the day of the school’s visit to produce the wax replicas, needed for our investment casting process.

The pupils were invited to tour the factory and take part in other educational activities. The plaque was later cast in stainless steel and mounted on a presentation plaque for display at the school.

“The best on the education day was when we had the opportunity to go on a tour around the factory and follow the process on how Jade’s plaque was going to be made”, wrote Holly Oxton in her post-visit report. “We got an exclusive chance to witness every single stage. I thoroughly enjoyed the full day as everyone from Dean Group International was very polite and helpful in every way.”

We all at Dean Group were glad to see the pupils genuinely excited and enthusiastic about taking part in the education day’s activities. We were delighted to be able to present the plaque at the school and hope that it will decorate the walls of St George’s High School for many years to come.
