The process we use at our forging company uses staged tooling and a pre-heated, near size billet to produce parts of a simple design. This is a low cost process for parts requiring the highest integrity and mechanical properties but subsequent machining operations are often required to produce the finished part. It can be used with a variety of ferrous and non-ferrous alloys.

Forging Benefits

Forging refines the grain structure and improves physical properties of the metal. With proper design, the grain flow can be oriented in the direction of principal stresses encountered in actual use.

Forging Process Explained

Forging involves the hot metal being shaped using localized compressive forces.

  1. Near size billet is heated to “plastic” state
  2. Billet is formed using a number of staged tools
  3. Any “flash” is removed by separate tool or by hand once cooled
  4. Heat treatment, machining, surface treatments and other post processes as required
