Position reports to: Operations Manager
Industry: Foundry/Metal Casting/Manufacturing
Location: Irlam, Manchester
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Supply Chain & Logistics Manager to oversee end-to-end supply chain operations within a fast-paced foundry environment. This role is responsible for ensuring the efficient procurement of raw materials, inventory control, production planning alignment, and the timely distribution of finished castings to customers.
Key responsibilities
Supply Chain Management
- Develop and implement supply chain strategies aligned with business objectives
- Manage procurement of raw materials (scrap metal, alloys, sand, consumables) and outsourced products from Asia
- Monitor supplier performance and maintain strategic supplier relationships
- Negotiate contracts, pricing, and delivery terms
- Maintain an up-to-date price lists from suppliers
- Maintain up to date cost database for all subcontract activities
- Help to achieve targeted annual sales.
- Maintain relationships with established supply base and develop or replace as required to support the business growth.
Logistics & Distribution
- Oversee inbound and outbound logistics operations
- Ensure efficient transportation planning and delivery scheduling
- Manage relationships with logistics providers and freight partners
- Ensure compliance with UK transport and safety regulations
Inventory & Planning
- Maintain optimal inventory levels to support production
- Implement inventory control systems and cycle counting processes
- Coordinate closely with production planning and operations teams
Operational Efficiency
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma)
- Monitor KPIs (OTIF, inventory turnover, lead times, cost reduction)
- Improve supply chain resilience and risk mitigation strategies
Compliance & Health & Safety
- Ensure compliance with UK regulations (HSE, environmental standards)
- Promote a safe working culture across warehouse and logistics operations
Team Leadership
- Work closely with sales, operations and manufacturing to manage and plan
- Drive performance and accountability across the function
- When required, supports the front-line sales on customer visits.
Essential requirements
- Experience in supply chain/logistics management in manufacturing or foundry/heavy industry
- Strong knowledge of procurement, inventory management, and logistics operations
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar)
- Excellent negotiation and supplier management skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Knowledge of UK compliance and transport regulations
Desirable requirements
- Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Engineering, or related field
- Professional certification (CIPS, CILT)
- Experience in metal casting, steel, or automotive supply chains
- Lean/Six Sigma certification
